I have started to write a book 1000 times over the course of my life. Okay, so that makes me sound really o
ld. I am only 28 years old but being such an avid reader! I've always thought writing would be something I did because I loved reading. When I was little, 3 years old, my grandmother took my television out of my room and told me to read to pass the time. My grandfather read the same books to me over, and over, and over again until I could recite them and eventually read them myself.
Over the years reading has stayed number one on my hobbies list. Whenever I read a really good book or got bored I would sit down with a notebook and begin writing a book. However, every time I would quit a couple chapters in. I would never say "I'm quitting" or get frustrated. I would just go on to the next task or not make a conscious effort to sit down and continue reading.
Fast forward to 2019, I work in a middle school with the Strategic Behavioral Program. As a teaching assistant I was assigned to the 8th grade of the program. The 8th grade class had 2 kids in it, who struggled to come to school. This left me with downtime in the classroom. I toyed with the idea of writing but there was always something that caught my attention or a task I needed to perform.
During the end of the year, state testing, I was a proctor along and we could not do anything during the test. No phones, no computers, no books! We were only allowed paper and a writing utensil. So here I am thinking what the heck and I going to do for 4 hours while these kids take this test? I did the only thing I could do with a pen and paper, I wrote! By the end of that year I had created my first novel.
